The law of Moses is a ministration of death
Matthew 5:18-19 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled
19. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
So according to these scriptures we are to keep the Ten Commandments, in fact were not to leave out one jot or tittle from the law UNTIL all be FULFILLED.
So God's people were required to keep the law UNTIL the law was FULFILLED.
Matthew 17-18 Think not I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled
John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
Now we know Jesus fulfilled what God the Father sent him to do and therefore the law of Moses was done away with for the righteous, those who receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster (law)
1 Timothy 1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man (a person who has received Christ), but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
The law of Moses is still in effect for lawless and disobedient and ungodly people, to give them the knowledge of sin, but after they come to Christ and walk in him then the law of Moses is done away with for them.
Jesus made the Old Covenant Mosaic law and it's commandments obsolete, the moral principles remain and are expressed in the royal law of love that Christians are to live by - James 2:8
Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Christians are to live in a higher level of righteousness than practicing the law of Moses
Scribes were doctors of the law and the scribes and Pharisees righteousness was keeping of the law of Moses and Jesus said our righteousness had to exceed the righteousness of the law of Moses.
Matthew 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Now the Lord is showing us how our righteousness will exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. The old covenant, the law of Moses says thou shall not commit adultery, but Jesus said you are not to look on a woman to lust after her.
Now Jesus was bringing in a New Covenant that dealt with the heart, the Old Covenant dealt with our outward actions but didn't get to the root of the problem which was our sinful heart.
Practicing the law of Moses verses living by the Spirit of God. The law of Moses showed us what was right and wrong (Romans 3:20 by the law is the knowledge of sin) but did not provide the power to change or to overcome.
By the New Covenant we can be spiritually regenerated, and our new nature is just like our Father in heaven, it is love and as we are spiritually regenerated (an ongoing work of grace) it becomes our nature to walk in love and therefore fulfill God's law.
The law of Moses makes us sin more; it works on the sin in us.
Romans 5:20 English Standard Version
Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
Romans 7:8 International Standard Version
8 But sin seized the opportunity provided by this commandment and produced in me all kinds of sinful desires, since apart from the Law, sin is dead.
Romans 7:13 Did that which is good (law), then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.
We become more and more sinful by the law and the law of Moses gives us the knowledge of sin and the human race is brought to the place where they cannot deny their sinfulness and their need for a savior, but once a person comes to Christ they are no longer under the schoolmaster which is the law of Moses
The law of Moses makes sin in us come alive:
Romans 7:9 English Standard Version I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.
Through water baptism sin is put to death:
Romans 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
The law of Moses ministers death and condemnation:
2 Cor. 3:7 But if the ministration (ministry) of death, written and engraven in stones (law of Moses), was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
2 Cor. 3:9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
So, ministers to this very day continue to minister death and condemnation to people as they preach the Ten commandments, they cause sin to come alive in people and make people sin more and then make them guilty and then these people can never overcome because we overcome sin by grace through faith and it's very difficult for a person under the law to have confidence toward God.
We are to obey the Great Commission
Every minister should preach the gospel that Jesus died for their sins was buried and rose from the dead to justify them, get them baptized in Christian water baptism and teach them how their sin nature was crucified with Christ and teach them how to walk by faith and keep reckoning the old man (sin nature) dead (that's using your faith to deal with sin) and keep putting off the old man by resisting sin and keep obeying the royal law of love which is teaching the disciples to obey all things Jesus commanded the apostles and as they do the old man will pass away and while they are learning to abide in Christ they will bear the fruit of the Spirit, the new man will be formed in them and the new man or the new creature in Christ can walk in the Spirit of God and overcome the world!
As we obey the gospel (believe it) and walk in the word of God and endeavor to be led by God's Spirit the old things will pass away and all things will become new, this doesn't happen by saying one prayer to receive the Lord.
2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
As we continue to put off the old man and put on the new man the old man will pass away!
Galatians 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth (prevail, overcome) any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
The new creature in Christ walks in faith and love!
Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth (prevail, overcome) any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
He that hath ears to hear let him hear!
